Protecting Revolutionary Technology

In the late summer, 2008 Split Rail Fence and Supply Company was selected to install a wind screen fence system for Sky Fuel, Inc. at its R& D Center in Arvada, Colorado. The Company has developed a revolutionary technology referred to as a Parabolic Trough Concentrator. In layman terms the unit is designed to concentrate the energy of the sun to produce electricity.

Five hundred lineal feet (500’) of twenty foot (20’) high chain link fence was installed to protect 2 sides of the project. Split Rail Fence then installed a polyethylene-knitted membrane on the chain link fence to complete the effort. The primary goal was to minimize any damage from excessive winds and flying debris but also to discourage entry to the site.

A second project has also been completed to install a six foot (6’) high chain link fence to enclose the remaining 450’ of the complex perimeter. This fence also has the polyethylene membrane installed.

Of some note in the initial 500 foot project was the sizing of the steel framework required to support the 20’ high sections of the fence. The support posts were 26 feet long, 8 5/8 inches in diameter and weighed 860 pounds each. Fifty-one of the posts were installed in holes 6’ in depth and 18 inches in diameter. There were 150, 1 7/8 inch horizontal rails connecting the posts.

The Sky Fuel concentrator is a one of a kind technology that required an innovative fencing solution. We are proud to have participated in this project and are pleased that we were able to satisfy our clients’ needs.

Highlands Ranch Fence Project

Highlands Ranch dates back to 1979 when it was created with the first occupants arriving in 1981. The community consists of 22,000 acres, 8,000 acres of open space, 70 miles of trails and 20 parks. At build out there will be approximately 36,700 housing units.

Split Rail Fence and Supply Co. is proud to have been a primary fence supplier during the development of Highlands Ranch. Our role has been an active one from the very early days of Highlands Ranch providing a wide range of fencing products.

Needless to say, after almost 30 years of weathering, some of the original fencing that was installed in Highlands Ranch is due for replacement.

During 2008 Split Rail Fence was fortunate to have been awarded a contract to demolish and replace approximately three miles of fence in Highlands Ranch. The product installed was Trex Seclusions privacy fencing. This is a composite product produced by Trex Company, Inc. of Winchester, Virginia. Trex Seclusions is considered low maintenance, splinter free and has a natural look and feel. There are several colors available and the Highlands Ranch Metropolitan District selected the most popular color-Saddle. A significant feature of Trex is its 25 year limited residential warranty.

Split Rail Fence and Supply Co. is an exclusive distributor for the Trex fencing products in the Colorado market.
